Solidarity is an international clinical trial to help find an effective treatment for COVID, launched by the World Health Organization and partners. Other drugs can be added based on emerging evidence. Until there is sufficient evidence, WHO cautions against physicians and medical associations recommending or administering these unproven treatments to patients with COVID or people self-medicating with them.
WHO guidance on compassionate use can be found here. Solidarity trial investigators will interrupt the trials with immediate effect. For each of the drugs, the interim results do not provide solid evidence of increased mortality. There were, however, some associated safety signals in the clinical laboratory findings of the add-on Discovery trial, a participant in the Solidarity trial. These will also be reported in the peer-reviewed publication.
Enrolling patients in one single randomized trial will help facilitate the rapid worldwide comparison of unproven treatments. This will overcome the risk of multiple small trials not generating the strong evidence needed to determine the relative effectiveness of potential treatments. As of 1 July , nearly patients have been recruited in 21 countries among the 39 countries that have approvals to begin recruiting.
Overall, over countries in all 6 WHO regions have joined or expressed an interest in joining the trial, and WHO is actively supporting them with:. The greater the number of participating countries, the faster results will be generated.

Tinder now claims to have matched billions of online daters, with its daily number of swipes often surpassing a billion. Stats like these are some of the reasons why this dating app has gained large amount of news attention, as well as lofty valuations, amid claims that it is revolutionizing the online dating game. But there are some issues here for the online dating industry — the numbers visiting dating sites have flat-lined over the past two years.

T here were, says Cat, perhaps one or two male students on her English degree. How great to have so many clever, educated young women spilling out every year, but there could be negative consequences, as a new book, Date-onomics , points out: there may not be enough educated men to go around. But, as the business journalist Jon Birger relates in his book Date-onomics, if an educated woman wants to form a long-term partnership with a man of similar education, the numbers are stacked against her.
But it could just be a numbers game, she says though Birger will say these two things are linked. Birger had started noticing that he was around far more single women than men. I wanted to figure out why. At first he thought it was just a big city problem — perhaps more educated women than men were drawn to New York, where he lives, or cities such as Los Angeles or London. The numbers are pretty much the same across the United States. Across young people, age 30 and under, [there are] about four college grad women for every three college grad men.

Studien und Texte zur Geistesgeschichte des Mittelalters is a peer-reviewed book series dealing with the intellectual history of the Middle Ages, primarily from the perspective of philosophical and theological questions and the history of their treatment. Its aim is, as founder-editor Josef Koch wrote in the preface to Volume 1, “firstly to further our knowledge of medieval intellectual history by scholarly research and secondly to publish critical editions of important texts”.
The series thus has three areas of emphasis: 1. Critical Editions, with doctrinal and text-critical introductions, of the primarily Latin works of medieval authors, which are of particular relevance to an understanding of medieval intellectual life and which fall outside the sphere of the major Omnia Opera editions of Albertus Magnus, Thomas Aquinas, Duns Scotus, etc. Studies and Monographs, both on the history of paradigms and questions in particular branches of scholarship and on individual thinkers and traditions, as well as on the form and function of institutions, in as far as they were important to medieval intellectual life.
Collaborative volumes with contributions from various authors on specific and unitary themes, which address problems in current research.

Computer-mediated communication CMC is pervasive in our lives, influencing social interaction including human courtship. To connect with potential partners via CMC, modern relationship-seekers must master faster and shorter methods of communicating self-disclosure and affect. Although CMC can lack crucial sensory information in this context, emojis may provide useful aid. Across two studies, we assessed attitudes toward and frequency of emoji use, and whether signaling affect via emoji use relates to more romantic and sexual opportunities.
Our findings suggest that emoji use with potential partners is associated with maintaining connection beyond the first date, and more romantic and sexual interactions over the previous year. This research provides evidence that emojis convey important affective information to potential partners, and are potentially associated with more successful intimate connection.
Implications for multiple theoretical models and methodologies are discussed.
